BIO:

Until very recently, Marilyn Baxter was the Environmental Manager at the Hamilton Port Authority. The HPA is a self-funded, federal agency and the largest Port Authority on the Great Lakes. Marilyn has been with the company since 2006 and was responsible for overseeing environmental studies for the 240 hectares of port property ; implemented environmental programs such as Green Marine; environmental issues liaison to local stakeholders, tenants and government agencies and Hamilton Harbour clean-up projects such as Randle Reef and Sherman Inlet.

 

Prior to joining the HPA, Marilyn was the Executive Director for the Bay Area Restoration Council, the primary community stakeholder group devoted to revitalizing Hamilton Harbour & its ecosystem. Because of her passion for sailboat racing, and keen interest in nature, and improving the water quality of the bay, her involvement with BARC began as a volunteer more than 25 years ago.

 

With a diploma in Science Technology (Chemistry focus) from Fanshawe College, Marilyn began her career as technologist in the air quality department of the former Ontario Research Foundation in Mississauga, and has also held the position of R&D technician for Procter & Gamble.

 

Marilyn became  a proud Eco Canada certified Environmental Professional, Environmental Sustainability (Communications & Public Awareness), in 2007.
